Polestar 4 Adds a Big Dollop of Practicality with a New SUV Version
Volvo has given the Polestar 4 a new lease of life by adding an SUV version to the ranks. It’s more of an SUV estate crossover, given the 4 was introduced as a coupe SUV, albeit it was more a fastback oriented car.
The listed starting price is actually £2,000 lower than the coupe version, and for that you get a lot more practicality and actual glass in the tailgate bringing more light and better rearward visibility in the back.
The new Polestar 4 SUV is a rival in the compact executive class competing against the likes of the new Volvo EX60, Mercedes GLC EQ, BMW iX3 and Audi Q4 e-tron, with the entry versions of each all hanging around the 400 mile range mark with similar starting prices.
However, there is no suggestion that Polestar will add a larger battery option to compete against the more leggy, and larger battery pack version of the BMW iX3 which claims a 500 mile range crown, or the Volvo EX60 P12 with a 503 mile range option.

What’s also notable is that Polestar has launched this new 4 SUV around the same time that sister brand launched their new and mighty Volvo EX60, yet neither are built in the same factory, or even in the same continent.
Michael Lohscheller, Polestar’s CEO, says: “Polestar 4 SUV broadens the appeal of our most successful model and extends our product offering in one of the industry’s most important segments. With more space, more utility and more opportunities for adventure, it stays true to the design, technology and driving experience that define Polestar. Production has started in Busan, South Korea, and the first shipment of cars is on the way to our customers.”
Exterior
The most evident feature of the Polestar 4 SUV is the redesigned rear with a straighter roofline and an upright profile. The Polestar 4 coupe isn’t going away as it as a solid fan base and is attractive in its segment, but its appeal may have been somewhat limited for families looking for a premium SUV, and Polestar has done a remarkable job of bringing the coupe’s attractive design and then evolving it into an SUV. It has clean, sharp, fuss-free lines that make this SUV stand apart from the more shouty offerings coming from Mercedes and BMW.
And with that new roofline comes full-length roof rails adding more practicality, and increasing the roof load capacity to a very decent 100 kg.
There are eight exterior colour choices including a new Aurora (bright silver green) and Ozone Matte (bright silver purple in matte clear-coat), albeit these are a £1,050 cost option.
Interior
Not much has changed with the Polestar 4 interior, except for more space. The same large centrally mounted touchscreen dominates the dashboard, plus the drivers display stays, too.
Polestar says that its “user-friendliness has been further enhanced with an increased number of widget shortcuts on the main display, rising from six to nine, alongside a broader selection of available shortcut functions.”
A rather swish Harman Kardon Premium Sound system is available as an option, with 12 speakers and a 1,400-Watt channel-hybrid amplifier.
And, for the first time in a 4, the rear view mirror is made from reflective glass, rather than being a digital mirror mated to some rear facing cameras, although this can be optioned for £600.
There’s also an electrochromic glass roof available for £1,200. But what’s sneaky about this is that customers must also select a £4,000 Prime pack that adds Pilot Assist, Lane change assist, Park Assist Pilot, Head-up Display, Pixel LED headlights with Adaptive High Beam, Power-operated tailgate with foot sensor, Rear control screen, Power reclining and heated rear seats, Privacy glass and much much more. This is a sneaky - and expensive way - in which to extract more money from customers looking for desirable equipment.
It’s worth noting that the electrochromic glass roof is an option on top of a standard UV protected glass roof. The £1,200 adds electronic shading to the glass at the flick of a soft switch.
The same sustainable and traceable materials have been selected for the P4 with Bio-attributed MicroTech features - a backing made from 100% recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and a PVC surface containing 53% bio-attributed content.
The optional interiors also have a sustainability focus, such as the Tailored Knit upholstery being made from 89% recycled PET waste (polyethylene terephthalate) and is 3D-knitted to minimise production waste.
Even the Bridge of Weir Nappa leather is a chrome-free by-product of the food industry meeting strict animal welfare standards and is fully traceable to its farm! That’s quite extraordinary.
Performance
There are two powertrain choices:
Rear motor variant has 272 hp and 343 Nm of torque with a brisk 0-62mph sprint in 7.3 seconds.
The Dual motor all-wheel drive produces a mighty 544 hp and 686 Nm of torque, for an eye wateringly fast 0-62mph sprint in 3.9 seconds.
Those looking for more engaging driving dynamics can opt for the £3,500 Performance pack. This adds some performance chassis tuning and recalibrated active dampers from ZF, high-performance Brembo brakes with callipers in a gold colour, and a new 22” Performance-wheel equipped with Pirelli P Zero performance tires.
Joakim Rydholm, Polestar’s Head of Driving Dynamics, says: “Polestar 4 SUV builds on the dynamic foundation of the recently sharpened Polestar 4 coupé. With refined chassis tuning and enhanced steering response, it delivers the confidence, precision and driving engagement that Polestar customers expect, in all driving conditions.”
Battery, Range and Charging
The 100 kWh nominal battery (or 94 kWh usable) is standard across the range, with no larger battery option available, and it can DC charging of up to 200 kW at a compatible rapid charger.
There’s up to 22 kW of AC charging where a three-phase supply and compatible charger is found. Normally domestic chargers are normally rated at 7 kW AC.
The rear motor version is good for up to 391 miles of WLTP range, suggesting an efficiency of around 4.1 miles/kWh. The dual motor manages 373 miles with efficiency dipping to 3.97 miles/kWh.
Vehicle-to-Load (V2L)
All Polestar 4 cars have a standard fit bidirectional charging enabling the car's high-voltage traction battery to supply power to external devices, such as camping equipment, power tools and a wide range of consumer electronics.
This can deliver a very usable 3.3 kW (16A, single-phase 230V) of power via a certified - and optional - charging adapter.
Features
Camping mode
A good addition to the Polestar 4 for the SUV is Camping mode that keeps the car’s climate-control turned on and provides access to entertainment, ambient lighting and vehicle controls from both front and rear displays, as well as enabling by V2L power, USB-C connectivity and powering the 12V outlet, whilst keeping the rest of the car shut down.
Google Gemini
Google Gemini provides natural, helpful voice assistants using advanced AI, plus it also supports hands-free “productivity”, enabling brainstorming, trip planning and more.
Pricing
The Polestar 4 SUV starts at £54,750 for Rear motor variants, although the website is currently offering a £4,000 discount, with the Dual Motor priced at £60,750, or £56,750 with the discount applied. The discount runs from 02.09.2026 and 30.09.2026 when orders are placed between these dates.
Options include the £4,000 Prime Pack, a £3,500 Performance Pack and a selection of wheel, interior trim choices, as well as paint and premium paint upgrades.
Sale and Warranty
