Refreshed Ford Puma GEN-E adds More Range and Driverless Technology

Britain’s best selling car, the Ford Puma, introduced an electric version just 16 months ago giving it the Gen-E monika, but it’s been so popular that there are now long wait lists for the compact crossover.

However, Ford is addressing this by bringing forward the refresh in order to increase production capacity. And customers who placed orders last year for the pre-refresh Puma Gen-E will be getting the refreshed version as Ford ramps production output to meet demand.

Ford have made a raft of updates for the refresh making it more appealing. First up, the electric Ford Puma now qualifies for the full £3,750 government Electric Car Grant, bringing cheaper, more affordable electric mobility to more Ford customers.

And, not only is the Puma Gen-E less expensive than before, but Ford has squeezed an extra 26 miles of range from its battery pack enabling a more competitive 259 miles of range on the WLTP test cycle.

Available in three trims, and with a starting price of £26,245, the Puma Gen-E Select has a good spec list, featuring LED projector headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, heated front windscreen for rapid demisting, privacy glass, a frunk and large sub-trunk for added storage and practicality, as well as a huge 574 litre boot, front and rear parking sensors and much more.

Step up to the Premium trim at £28,245 and it adds 18-inch alloy wheels, posher seat materials with stitching, a 12-inch SYNC touchscreen with a Bang & Olufsen 10-speaker audio system and keyless entry.

Top spec BlueCruise Edition at £30,545 has exclusive 18-inch alloys, Vapour blue paint with a black painted roof and door mirrors, Blue fabric and partial faux leather seats, 360 degree camera, powered tailgate and BlueCruise ready (for a one-time purchase) which allows for hands off-feet off semi autonomous highway driving.

Ford says “Ford BlueCruise delivers a 'hands-off, eyes-on' driving experience that helps make your trips easier, more enjoyable, and less stressful. The first of its kind in Europe, our most advanced innovation in driver assistance technology is now available on select models including Mustang Mach-E, Kuga, Puma, Puma Gen-E and Ranger.”

Costs for BlueCruise start with a free 90 day trial followed by a £17.99 monthly subscription or a £215 annual subscription.

All versions of the Puma come with a 100 kW onboard DC charger that provides a 10% - 80% rapid charge in 26 minutes, which is decent for a compact crossover.

The Puma Gen-E will also complete a 0-60 sprint in a very reasonable 8 seconds, but with 290 NM of torque available, it should make for an entertaining drive - something that Ford specialises in.

Premium Connectivity, for £4.99 per month, is available on all Puma models, allowing customers to access popular streaming services via the SYNC system. Customers can even play games or blast out karaoke favourites.

Connected Navigation at £5.99 per month can also be added, and both services are also available as a one-time Purchase, or an annual subscription.

The refreshed Puma is available to order now with details, prices and specification available on the Ford website.
