Pricing announced for the new Peugeot 408 and E-408
The Peugeot 408 has received a significant refresh and following Jim’s recent, and excellent review of the new Peugeot E-408, U.K. prices have been revealed for all versions.
For EV fans, the good news is the electric version now qualifies for the Band 2 EV Car Grant, meaning they’re £1,500 cheaper at launch.
The 408 takes up the C segment spot as a fastback, and whilst Peugeot have blurred the lines a little between fastback and SUV - perhaps appealing to a wider demographic - the overall the shape with the updates looks absolutely stunning.
Only three trim levels are offered keeping a simplified line-up with the ALLURE, GT and GT Premium trims. And in parallel there’s also three powertrain options; a hybrid, plug-in hybrid and a full batery electric version.
Prices
Here’s where it gets interesting because the battery electric version sits in the middle of powertrain prices, just a few hundred pounds more than the hybrid, with the plug-in hybrids being the most costly option by quite some margin.
You really have to want a PHEV version to buy one because financially it makes little sense over the BEV if customers can plug in at home, with the only gain for the PHEV being outright range.
The BiK rate (Benefit in Kind) for the Battery electric version is 4%, whilst the plug-in hybrid is 10% and the hybrid is 28%.
ALLURE
Hybrid 145 e-DSC6 6-Speed Automatic = £31,995
Plug-In Hybrid 240 e-DSC7 7-Speed Automatic = £38,495
Electric 58kWh 210 = £32,695
GT
Hybrid 145 e-DSC6 6-Speed Automatic = £34,495
Plug-In Hybrid 240 e-DSC7 7-Speed Automatic = £40,995

GT PREMIUM
Hybrid 145 e-DSC6 6-Speed Automatic = £36,795
Plug-In Hybrid 240 e-DSC7 7-Speed Automatic = £43,895

Powertrain Details
The 408 is an electrified only car, so there is no pure petrol or diesel models in the line-up.
Hybrid
The new 408 hybrid has an efficient 145 bhp powertrain, featuring a 48V 0.9 kWh battery mated to an electrified dual clutch six-speed automatic gearbox combined with a 22 bhp electric motor and a 1.2 litre petrol engine. However, electric only driving is rated at up to 1 km (0.6 miles) of low speed driving, so it’s no Toyota Prius.
However, claimed efficiency is decent with up to 56 mpg combined possible.
Plug-in Hybrid
The Plug-in Hybrid gets the larger 1.6 litre petrol engine, and a 125hp electric motor incorporated into the dual-clutch seven-speed automatic electrified gearbox. Combined, the plug-in hybrid powertrain produces 221 bhp and 360 Nm of torque
The 16.2kWh battery enables up to 53 miles of electric range which covers most people’s daily commutes.
However, charging is limited to a 3.7kW on-board AC charger for the ALLURE and GT trims which translates to taking 3 hours 25 minutes for a full charge.
The GT Premium trim comes with a much faster 7.4kW on-board AC charger, reducing charging time to 1 hour 40 minutes.
Battery Electric
The E-408 features a 58 kWh usable battery with 210 bhp and 343 Nm of torque that provides a range of up to 283 miles (WLTP) but also supports DC rapid charging up to 120 kW providing a 20% to 80% rapid charge in 31 minutes.
Three levels of regenerative braking help with efficiency and personal preferences and Peugeot has added battery pre-conditioning that enhances the efficiency of the pack by managing the temperature optimising range and charging speeds.
Another new addition for Peugeot is Vehicle to Load (V2L) allowing users to power external devices via the car’s high-voltage battery, such as charging an e-bike. The V2L adapter is available as an accessory.
The E-408 features a heat pump as standard, but only on the top GT Premium trim, making for better range in winter. This is available as an option on other trim levels.
Warranty
The electric E-408 gets an 8-year warranty for everything (or 100,000 miles - whichever comes first), including the battery and motor under the Peugeot Care scheme. This requires dealership servicing as the caveat.
The 408 Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrids get a 3 year, 60,000 miles warranty.
Servicing
Three years servicing packages can be bought for £199. Terms & Conditions state that 3 years scheduled servicing include age/mileage related operations such as brake fluid, spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter & pollen filter depending on powertrain.
Passenger vehicle service intervals are as follows –
Petrol – 1 year / 12,500 miles.
Hybrid – 1 year / 16,000 miles.
Plug-In Hybrid – 1 year / 16,000 miles (408 - 1 year / 20,000 miles).
Diesel – 1 year/20,000 miles.
Electric - Initial operation 1 year / 8,000 miles then scheduled services 2 years / 16,000 miles (Rifter & Traveller – initial operation 1 year / 12,500 miles then scheduled services 2 years / 25,000 miles).
Peugeot are also offering a £2,000 part exchange allowance for a limited time when ordering a Peugeot 408 irrespective of fuel type.
