Mercedes Goes Glitzy with the new AMG GT 4-door Coupe
Mercedes has proudly released pictures of the new AMG GT 4-door coupe interior claiming it’s driver oriented and promises a characteristic AMG driving experience.
Undoubtedly if you’re impressed with jewels, apps and the lights of Las Vegas, it will greatly appeal to you because this new AMG has it in abundance.
Interior of the AMG GT Coupe
Mercedes will tell you its “Digital cockpit with seamlessly integrated displays and a driver-oriented central screen creates a true control center for performance”.
But with three screens will the driver and passenger have too much on-screen distractions that turn this track-tunable performance car into a video game inspired car?
Well, actually this is exactly what Mercedes is aiming for as it quotes the AMG has “Sports-car genes meet Gran-Turismo attributes: The best of both worlds”
The interior of the AMG GT 4‑Door Coupé is focused on the driving with Mercedes proudly boasting it has a 10.2-inch wide-screen drivers display and a 14-inch central display - tilted towards the driver - for better intuition of information and controls.
However, Mercedes doesn’t leave the passenger out as there is a display directly in front of the front passenger seat that is also 14-inches.
Additionally, there are also some tactile features, such as the three rotary dials each with dedicated functionality mounted on the centre console and tilted towards the driver. They are:
Response Control dial changes the response of the motors to accelerator pedal commands.
Agility Control dial changes the agility around the vertical axis adjusting the cornering behaviour.
Traction Control dial adjust slip via the traction control in nine stages.
Mercedes refers to these as its “AMG RACE ENGINEER Control Unit'“

Mercedes has placed some more tactile controls on and around the steering wheel. There are paddles behind the wheel which Mercedes claims controls recuperation, similar to a KERS system perhaps.
There are two round buttons on the lower part of the steering wheel which allows for control of driving functions and driving programs relaying information back to the drivers display.
The steering wheel itself can be specified with a choice of high-quality rim fabrics, from supple leather to lightweight carbon fibre and non-slip MICROCUT microfibre.
Closer look at the steering wheel and dashboard
Inside the cabin there’s an abundance of ambient lights with a strip on the dashboard that wraps around the doors seemingly surrounding the interior.
Mercedes states “High-resolution, atmospheric ambient styles can be selected as mood-enhancing background motifs for the displays. The colour scheme of the instrument cluster, the controls and the ambient lighting are perfectly matched to these motifs.”
This soft, background lighting can be found throughout the cabin from illuminated air vents, to door handles, door bins, footwells and much more.

As with the new Mercedes S Class, the AMG GT 4-door also features Mercedes‑Benz User Experience (MBUX) - the in-car personal AI Assistant - which runs on the same Mercedes-Benz Operating System (MB.OS).
It seamlessly integrates functions throughout the car via natural language voice commands, which is perhaps essential when the car is screen-heavy.
This new operating system allows for different display styles that gives this Mercedes-AMG a more personalised experience. These styles are broken down into three core attributes:
AMG Special style offers four different sub-screens.
AMG TRACK PACE displays telemetry data, such as acceleration information or race data.
Classic style with contains day-to-day submenus like fuel consumption or the SatNav.
Panoramic roof
Mercedes has chosen to combine all of this technology with high quality materials such as leather, alcantara style fabrics and diamond quilting, as well as metals for trims, air vents, seat switchgear and accent details all aimed at providing a measure of opulence.
Standard fit is the panoramic roof that can be switched between transparent and non-transparent, but with a central spine so the driver and passenger can choose different options from one another.
As well as the switchable smart glass, Mercedes have added accent lighting within the glass with AMG emblems above the driver and front seat passenger.
The glass is also heat-insulated adding further protection to occupants.
Mercedes has attempted to create a driver-focused car with the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, but added all it’s latest software, operating system and track-tuning. But could all the lights and screens detract from this, or is this the perfect car for the sophistictaed buyer looking for luxury and race-car performance?
