Jaguar Type 01 Displays its Minimalist Approach
Jaguar has teased more images revealing the minimalist interior of their up-coming Type 01, luxury GT 4-door car, and it does look stunningly spartan.
Refreshingly, the dashboard doesn’t appear to be awash with screens, leaving designers some freedom to create a contemporary, eye-pleasing dashboard bereft of buttons.
A touchpad takes the centre spot with various functions and widgets available at a touch. Whether this will please some and turn some off remains to be seen. However, the steering wheel does the heavy lifting for buttons.
The centre console, which stretches from front to back, looks large enough to house plenty of storage so it will be interesting to see what Jaguar has utilised that space for, but it highlights that this is a strict four seat car.
The glaring omission is the lack of rear view mirror, and Jaguar has shown the reason for this, because that large panoramic, single glass piece stretches into that long sloping roof and has very little rear visibility. So, just like a Polestar 4, cameras will perhaps replace the mirror.
Whilst the thought of Jaguar becoming a pure electric brand and a pure luxury brand will disappoint many of its fans, we can at least start to see the Type 01 coming together.
It’s styling may not suit all tastes, but it has a refreshingly simply approach to its interior. Gone are the multitude of screens seen by some German brands with their version of luxury. Instead, Jaguar is redefining what luxury stands for; Discreet technology, with a driver focused car unladen by distractions, trinkets, bejewelled buttons and shiny objects.
It’s un-shouty, elegant, understated and very symmetrical.
