Chery International Shows Strong Growth in the U.K. Since Launching in 2024

Chery International UK - which sells the Chery, OMODA, Jaecoo and soon-to-be launched LEPAS and Delivan brands - has blasted past the 6% market share marker for the first time, achieving 6.73% in April 2026, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

Chery International’s UK is eyeing up a rapid expansion in the U.K. markets with a similar concept to Volkswagen’s Group multi-brand strategy, and it’s now gaining real traction with British consumers thanks to some compelling products and even more compelling prices.

JAECOO led with a 2.60% market share (3,877 cars), followed by OMODA at 2.19% (3,275 cars) and CHERY UK with 1.94% market share (2,900 cars).

The Chery brands have not been in the U.K. for long. OMODA only entered the UK market in August 2024, followed by JAECOO in January 2025 with CHERY only joining in August last year. All brands focus heavily on hybrid and plug-in hybrid technologies with a few electric and petrol car options.

Appeal has grown recently with the launch of new models, and with the prices of fuel rising recently resulting in a surge in interest for electrified cars (as noted in yesterday’s data from the SMMT), Chery International could not have timed this better.

Chery takes a local approach to its products, ensuring ride, comfort and features are pertinent to each country they operate in. This is underscored by its globally accomplished core powertrain technologies developed and manufactured in-house by Chery International.

Chery International will launch additional models throughout 2026, focusing on new hybrid and plug-in hybrid models. And Chery International has a clear focus on long-term, sustainable growth in the U.K. with dealership expansion plans throughout the country to support its growing model range.

Gary Lan, CEO, Chery International UK, said: “Edging close to 7% market share in such a short space of time is a significant milestone for our business in the UK, and one that reflects the strength of our products, our partners and our long-term approach. Chery International made a deliberate decision to wait more than 20 years before entering the UK market, ensuring we had the right technology, the right products and the right foundations in place. What we are seeing now is the result of that strategy coming together.
UK drivers are responding to the value, the specification and the technology we are offering across OMODA&JAECOO UK and CHERY UK, and our individual retailer network for all brands has been instrumental in building trust and delivering that experience at a local level. We may still be at an early stage of our journey in the UK, but the direction is clear. With a growing product portfolio, including the introduction of LEPAS UK, and continued investment in our operations, we are confident in our ability to build a strong and sustainable presence in our new home market.”

LEPAS is aiming to be Chery’s premium brand, in the same vein that Audi is the premium car brand to Volkswagen Group, with the LEPAS L8 SUV launching in Q3 2026.
