Audi Reveals Pricing and Specs for the All-New RS 5

Definitely Not A Guru reported on the new Audi RS 5 back in February detailing the sizzling new super-hybrid fastback and estate car.

And now Audi have revealed prices, specifications and performance figures for their new performance car. Only time will tell if Audi has done enough to win over sales from the new BMW M i3 and M3.

This is Audi’s first RS plug-in hybrid which comes with an all-electric range of up to 52 miles, but it’s worth noting - as reported in February - that full performance from the RS 5 is dependant on retaining a relatively high state-of-charge, meaning regular top-ups at a charger will be required to extract the best performance from the car.

However, Audi is keen to state that “during braking and coasting, intelligent recuperation technology harvests energy for the upgraded battery, and when plugged in, the RS 5 can charge at up to 11kW, meaning the battery can be restored from 0% to 100% in as little as 2.5 hours”.

Insid an Audi RS 5

Given the full specifications are now revealed the compromise looks to be in boot space with the hybrid system seamingly eating into available storage, making this a less practical option over outgoing RS 4 models.

Excessive weight also reflects negatively on paper, but only tests and reviews will reveal whether Audi engineers have done enough to disguise that mass.

However, with impressive acceleration, coupled with low emissions and potentially low refuelling costs, it may favour some customers looking for a family performance car.
