Volvo has announced a deeper partnership with NVIDIA aimed at further developing autonomous driving safety technology for future cars and expanding the companies’ decade-long collaboration.
Guided by Volvo Cars’ pioneering safety knowledge and powered by the NVIDIA Hyperion sensor and compute architecture, the technology will enable future generations of Volvo cars to safely and autonomously navigate the real-world from door to door, including highways and urban environments, all powered by the NVIDIA Hyperion sensor suite and compute architecture.
Volvo prides itself on industry-leading vehicle safety systems and engineering expertise whilst NVIDIA’s AI and accelerated computing technologies will enhance Volvo’s safety first approach. As well as NVIDIA’s sensor suite, future Volvo’s will use the Halos operating system, and Alpamayo Stack driving software.
The collaboration will develop industry leading AI enabled car technology and safety systems that will gradually introduce eyes off, hands off self-driving cars
Håkan Samuelsson, president and CEO of Volvo Cars said “Volvo has been synonymous with car safety for almost 100 years. By working with NVIDIA, we bring together two distinct strengths: industry-leading safety knowledge and world-class AI technology. That combination gives us a unique opportunity to create safer and more attractive cars for our customers.”
Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA “Accelerated computing has transformed the car into an intelligent machine that can understand the world around it. Volvo has spent nearly a century protecting people on the road. Together, we’re combining Volvo’s extraordinary vehicle safety systems with NVIDIA Hyperion and Halos to build a new generation of cars that make driving safer and more effortless.”
This is not the first collaboration between NVIDIA and a car manufacturer to develop autonomous self-driving cars, as the tech company had previously announced a collaboration with Mercedes-Benz earlier in the year.
