UK Charging Infrastructure Grows to 120,000 Chargers According to Zapmap

Zapmap is one of the best resources for EV charging data and insights that provides the UK Government's Department for Transport with the data contributing to official public charging statistics.

At the end of April 2026, the U.K. EV charging network grew to 120,388 chargers from 93,394 devices at 46,333 charging locations around the UK. These statistics cover public AC destination chargers as well as public DC rapid chargers.

According to the Zapmap database, 1,308 new EV chargers have been added to the U.K. network last month alone.

Zapmap covers this in four categories, labelled as:

  1. Standard: From 3kW up to 7.9kW

  2. Standard Plus: From 8kW up to 49kW

  3. Rapid: From 50kW up to 149kW

  4. Ultra-rapid: 150kW and above

Zapmap also notes a shift towards 150kW+ Ultra-rapid chargers with 3,425 Ultra-rapid chargers added to the public network in 2025, representing a 40% year on year growth.

The overall growth is 13% across the entire network, but with fewer chargers installed last year compared to the previous year.

The number of new chargers added in April 2026 takes into account older EV chargers that are decommissioned with Zapmap providing a net figure. HOwever, without understanding how many legacy chargers were decommissioned, there has been no data provided indicating the gross number of chargers added.

There are also more than one million home and workplace chargers that have been installed which is where the majority of charging still takes place, and Zapmap doesn’t include this data in their statistics.
