The Curation Engine is the Sensory Heartbeat of Bentley’s new Torcal EV

Bentley wishes its customers to feel a connection with it’s new Torcal electric car, and to achieve that it is tapping into their senses. Comfort is just one factor, but it understands that each customer is unique, has different requirements, and in doing so, it’s creating a product that feels entirely unique to each customers preferences.

Bentley says “by aligning multiple senses and responding to the changing needs of its occupants, it creates experiences that feel deeply personal. The result is more than comfort alone, it is a new form of luxury – centred on balance, wellbeing and shaping every journey around how you want to feel.”

Adjusting suspension settings and seat preferences isn’t enough to define luxurious comfort, according to Bentley. It now aims to transform the cabin’s atmosphere through light, sound, climate, air quality and digital information, all working harmoniously for a bespoke environment which, it says, affects mood and emotion.

It’s designed to help all occupants feel more calm, energised and engaged with the car. It’s connected these experiences into one Curation Engine, a almost jewel like dial control found in the centre of the cabin, surrounded by exquisitely crafted, knurled rocker switches.

Bentley also provides a sneak peak at it’s interior, from the exquisite materials used emphasising a sharp attention to detail and their take on dynamic ambient lighting.

The idea behind the Curation Engine is to shape the character of the car, adjusting suspension, powertrain and driving settings, which are more familiar in other models with modes such as Bentley, Sport and Comfort.
However, the Torcal adds a secondary layer with a more immersive focus from Experience Modes, lighting and sound settings, plus other sensory settings to create a zen-like experience said to enhance mood, atmosphere and wellbeing.

For example, the ‘Refresh Mode’ increases fresh-air circulation, with the lighting becoming brighter giving the impression of a lighter atmosphere that feels cleaner and more invigorating. This mode is specifically designed to combat fatigue and increase alertness.

The aim for the Bentley Torcal is to “create experiences that adapt, respond and evolve throughout a journey.”

Whether it’s enough to persuade Bentley customers to dip their brogue into an electric Bentley remains to be seen, but I suspect this is just one selling point from many more that are to follow. Meanwhile, Bentley continues to tease us with well-chosen images to highlight its attention to material choice, quality, and the high standards its setting in luxury.
