BYD to Launch Large 7-Seater SUV in U.K.

The all-new BYD Ti7 is a large SUV that will launch in the U.K. using its DM-p plug-in hybrid technology.

BYD looks to be capturing the market for large, luxurious 7-Seat SUVs by launching the new Ti7 Plug-in Hybrid.

Using BYD’s New-Energy Vehicle platform it has the potential to produce a full-electric version, although there is no information about powertrain choice. For now, the only option will be the Plug-in Hybrid that utilises BYD’s robust blade LFP batteries.

BYD says this is already a hugely successful model globally for the company, and will be its flagship model for BYD U.K., catering for larger families, or even used by Taxi companies ferrying families to the airport whilst cutting back on fuel costs.

The Ti7 is not small at 5,146mm long, 1,995mm wide and 1,865mm tall, it’s pitched directly in Land Rover Defender LWB territory, for context .

And, as if by design, styling is strongly reminiscent of a Land Rover Defender 130 from its side profile with a hint of 90’s Toyota Land Cruiser Amazon at the front.

Designed as a rugged off-roader, it seems to have got the styling cues just right with the titanium finished front bumper protector, however, with only one official picture to analyse Chinese websites shows a very flat back with a spare wheel box on the back, very similar to both Land Rovers and Land Cruisers.

Inside, its luxurious, yet utilitarian, with plenty of leather, a floating centre console with a drivers display and central touchscreen. The interior reflects the outside with a degree of quality and robustness about it.

The Ti7 has four-wheel drive that BYD calls a “Dual Mode Performance (DM-p) plug-in hybrid powertrain”. With two electric motors driving all four wheels, and a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, the Ti7 will sprint from 0-62 mph in 4.8 seconds, which is an accomplishment given its size. On electric power alone, the WLTP combined range is 79 miles.

Further details, including pricing and specifications, will be released in the coming weeks.
