BMW iX3 Now On Sale with UK’s First 500 Mile Range EV

We bring you more pictures and specs for the upcoming 500 mile range BMW iX3 SUV ahead of deliveries this month.

A New Design Era

The iX3 marks a new design and technology direction for BMW, called Neue Klasse. And it packs a huge range thanks to next-gen battery technology and efficiency improvements.

And it’s not just on the outside where you’ll see changes, the interior has had a revolution, too. Gone is the widescreen, replaced by a central display and an information band between the bottom of the windscreen and dashboard, which is also where the drivers display sits.

If you have an OCD about symmetry, as I do, it may take a while to get used to an asymmetrical central display. It itches my brain, but for others they may love its individuality.

The M Sport comes with a black M cabin combining Veganza and M PerformTex, which is a vegan leather combined with an alcantara-style textile for a luxurious feel.

The Specs

With the top-spec iX3 50 xDrive M Sport Pro Package, which reads more like a secure password, rides on huge, yet optional, 22-inch, two-tone M wheels, which may come as standard on the upcoming 60 M Sport, if we are to speculate a little.

From its dual motors, this BMW delivers 463 bhp and has a rather hefty 108.7 kWh battery that BMW claims is good for 500 miles of driving, or 805 km if you wish to be more dramatic.

Optional Extras

As with BMW, the options list is quite expansive, but the M Sport Pro versions have “black accents extending to the side mirror caps, kidney grille, and rear skid plate” to tell them apart from other versions.

However, if you like the 22-inch M Wheels, they will set you back an uncomfortable £3,300 extra.

For £1,275 you can have a glass panoramic roof, and tinted windows is a £450 additional cost, as is the £875 silver paint option in these pictures.

And if you wish for your M steering wheel to be heated, that will set you back £250.

The iX3’s Rear end

But there’s more. The Technology Plus Package costs £1,700, but adds three-zone automatic climate control, a 3D head-up display, and a Harman Kardon sound system. Nice. If you wish to tow, that’s £1,025 for a tow bar.

Adding options can increase the cost of the car by £10,000 and when you consider the starting price for this model is £62,162, you really need to choose wisely unless you have deep pockets and a penchant for spending money.

Range, Charging and More

Not only does this new car have a huge range of 500 miles, but it can add 231 miles of range in a jaw dropping 10 minutes, from a compatible ultra-rapid charger.

The new iX3 comes with “BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, your smart driving assistant, designed to learn and adapt with updates. It offers easy access to features such as navigation, communication, entertainment and vehicle controls, and even can provide suggestions while driving and assist with certain repetitive tasks for you.”

There’s an abundance of storage in the new BMW. The boot capacity is 520 litres with the seats up and 1,750 litres with the rear seats folded.
There’s even 58 litres of storage under the bonnet, too. Handy for storing those charging cables.

Deliveries of the new iX3 begin this month and lower spec versions, such as the less expensive, and less-well appointed 40 and 40 xDrive should start later this year, as should the top-spec 60M, but you may need to wait longer for the hot iX3 M.

For now, the iX3 starts from £58,755 for the 50 xDrive and sits on 20-inch wheels as standard.
