BMW M2 Powers in with new M xDrive Option
The first generation BMW M2 launched 10 years ago delivering 365 hp of thrills and based on the 1-series. A more punchy M2 Competition added 405 hp and a limited run M2 CS was available. All M2’s were sending the power to the rear wheels. Until now. With the second generation - originally launched in 2023 - this refresh brings a four-wheel drive xDrive option for the first time.
And thanks to the improved traction, the M2 M xDrive will rocket its occupants on 0-62 mph in 3.7 seconds.
Priced from £74,255 OTR, the UK market launch of the new BMW M2 with M xDrive commences in late summer 2026.
Available with BMW’s new Individual Borusan Turkish Blue paint, the M2 M xDrive has a combined fuel economy 27.2 – 27.4 mpg on the WLTP test cycle and produces 235 – 233 g/km CO₂ emissions.
The M xDrive all-wheel drive system splits the power developed by the 480 hp six-cylinder in-line engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology between the front and rear axles intuitively adapting to the driving situation at hand. Also in play is the Active M Differential, which distributes drive variably between the rear wheels as required, maximising traction and delivering the driving dynamics typically associated with a rear-wheel drive model.
These enhanced traction levels increase the car’s agility, dynamism and directional stability resulting in improved acceleration – 0 – 62 mph in 3.7 seconds. The new BMW M2 with M xDrive therefore offers drivers the inimitable M feeling through all four seasons of the year, in almost any road conditions and in all weathers – without any trade-off in performance. The car showcases its optimised traction (which is also the product of specially developed chassis tuning) with sublime assurance in fluctuating grip conditions such as ice and snow as well as on the track.
Inside the M2 gets upgraded seats with what I can only describe as a nut-cracker in the middle of the seat base. I’m unconvinced it enhances the seats in anyway, and yet it could be prove to be painful for people of a gentlemanly persuasion.
The UK market launch of the new BMW M2 with M xDrive will commence in late summer 2026, with pricing starting from £74,255 OTR.
