All-New Toyota RAV4 is a Plug-in Hybrid
As Toyota aims to reduce its fleet Co2 emissions it’s launching a range of plug-in hybrid and fully electric models, and the sixth generation RAV4 arrives as a plug-in hybrid powertrain only.
The RAV4 is an important model for Toyota as it’s their most successful car on sale globally often claiming 2nd place for the most sold car in the world, so Toyota claims to have enhanced what is evidently a winning formula without being too radical.
Hybrid and Petrol models will be sold elsewhere, and at this stage it’s unclear whether Toyota intends to bring them to the U.K.
Toyota is now taking the RAV4 to the next level as it launches with a battery pack providing up to 62 miles of all-electric range (WLTP), which covers more than the average daily drivers’ needs.
Toyota claims that by powering the RAV4 as a Plug-in Hybrid it will enhance performance and efficiency as well as advancing safety whilst retaining practicality, reliability and durability. This is the formula that makes Toyota’s so attractive to so many customers.
And with up to 620 litres of boot space it will cope well with whatever families throw at it, too.
Model range
Four trim levels are available at launch: Icon, Design, Excel and GR Sport. Icon is front-wheel drive only, whilst all-wheel drive is standard on the GR Sport and an option for the RAV4 Design and Excel trims.
The Icon model has standard 18-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats and steering wheel, powered hatchback and a Blind Spot Monitor.
It also has Toyota’s next-generation multimedia system with a 12.9-inch touchscreen.
The Design model features 20-inch black alloy wheels and a two-tone exterior paint finish. On top of the Icon specification, it also includes power-adjustable, heated and ventilated front seats – with a drivers seat memory setting – and a wireless phone charger.
The Excel trim offers 20-inch machined black alloys, leather upholstery, head-up display, an additional wireless smartphone charger and a JBL audio system.
Additional safety technology is included such as Front Cross Traffic Alert.
A panoramic roof is an option on the Excel trim, but prices on options have not been released yet.
The GR Sport model adds sporty styling features and enhanced driver updates. There are lightweight 20-inch alloys for a start, plus a tuned chassis and upgraded suspension to provide that sporty edge for improved driver engagement.
There are also GR-dedicated design features with a different front grille, sporty steering wheel and sports front seats. A sunroof is available at an extra cost, too.
