The Vision Concept shows what’s to come from ALPINA under BMW Ownership
BMW Group states that “this is a one-of-one design study signaling a new chapter for BMW ALPINA” and that it “reimagines the brand’s heritage with contemporary purpose, aesthetics, and technology’.
I think it looks absolutely stunning, and it looks more production ready and less of a concept car, so I sincerely hope that - for BMW’s latest brand - this ALPINA will make into production at some point.
The Vision concept is a grand tourer with a V8 representing a classic take on a stylish coupe with a classic GT engine blending style, performance, character and sophistication into one elegant package that’s become synonymous with Alpina’s previous vision of adding their touch of luxury and performance to BMW’s.
Maximilian Missoni, head of BMW Design Midsize & Luxury Cars and BMW ALPINA said “In Vision BMW ALPINA, we distil every element of the brand to its essence and apply it in a deeply modern and sophisticated way. Every detail reflects substance: in engineering, in materials, and in the story it tells. The statements it makes are subtle and revealed only on a closer read. This interplay between purity and richness defines our approach to BMW ALPINA design.”
There’s a new take on BMW’s classic grille design, almost creating the shape of a shield with the top sections that integrates thin headlights that spread like wings from the grille.
But we have to remember this is now a BMW ALPINA, blending two companies together to create a unique brand means changing some elements of BMW’s and enhancing them with a modern twist to the design language that integrates both brands seamlessly.
Its overall profile speaks to the classic GT car enthusiast with a long bonnet, well-proportioned cabin and a shorter rear. It looks like its in a perpetual state of pointing onwards with it’s shark-inspired front, and this is where the designers have captured the essence of speed, cohesively integrating it into its shape. It’s just a stunning looking car from every angle.
Inside, BMW ALPINA have created a sense of space, luxury and light, from the full length glass roof that stretches from the top of the windscreen all the way to the boot lid, to the light colours chosen for the interior that could be inspired by the Alpine region.
With fine quality leather chosen for the upholstered parts of the car, there’s also cut crystal controls providing an aura of luxurious jewelry that’s sensed through touch and bedazzled with the eyes.
As this is a one-off car for now, it has been carefully crafted almost like a coachbuilder would have crafted fine cars many years ago, yet it does so without stepping in the toes of the other obvious brand under the BMW Group - Rolls Royce. There is a definite and purposeful demarcation between these two luxury brands, one demonstration performance, style and an engaging drive, with Rolls Royce epitomising the height of luxurious transportation. The ALPINA wants to be driven whereas the Rolls Royce is to be pampered in.
ALPINA’s first car will be available next year and will be a car inspired by the BMW 7 Series that’s unmistakably BMW ALPINA.
