Nissan to Close a Production Line in Sunderland

Nissan shuts a production line in Sunderland placing external jobs at risk.

The BBC are reporting that Nissan is set to close a production line in Sunderland putting at risk 600 indirect jobs within the supply chain, although Nissan stated that no employees are affected by the closure.

Nissan will now optimise remaining production lines, merging them into one by producing the all-new Leaf, Juke and Qashqai models on one line, with the Micra already being built at Renault’s factory in Douai, France.

Nissan said the changes were being made under its RE:Nissan recovery plan and were designed to create a "leaner, more resilient business that adapts quickly to market changes".
The company aims to simplify structures to “operate in a sustainable and profitable way".

Nissan has also been rumoured to be in talks with Chery Group from China, but no official statements have been made by either company.
