JAECOO 7 SHS-P sets Guinness World Records title in Three Peaks challenge
The JAECOO 7 SHS-P has set a new Guinness World Records title after completing the UK National Three Peaks Challenge with an officially recorded average fuel consumption of 68.7mpg.
The record attempt took place between 19 and 20 September, with TV presenter Ben Shephard climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), while efficiency specialists Kevin Booker and Sam Clarke drove the JAECOO 7 between the three mountains.
The challenge covered 469.5 miles of driving, taking in motorways, mountain roads and changing weather conditions. The vehicle was sealed by the RAC before the attempt, while Webfleet tracked the journey to independently verify the distance and driving data. Guinness World Records subsequently recorded the JAECOO 7 SHS-P's average fuel consumption at 68.7mpg.
That makes it the lowest fuel consumption achieved during a UK National Three Peaks Challenge by a plug-in hybrid production SUV.
Shephard, who completed all three climbs on foot, was supported on the mountains by guide Cai Jarvis of Lost Earth Adventures. The JAECOO provided a chance to rest between the climbs, with Shephard saying the car's comfort made a noticeable difference.
“The JAECOO 7 SHS-P was so comfortable and quiet that I could genuinely rest and recover on the road,” said Shephard. “Three mountains, three nations and a whole lot of rain were brutal on the legs, so the time between the climbs really mattered.”
For the drivers, the challenge was about getting the most from the JAECOO's hybrid system rather than simply driving slowly. Kevin Booker, who has previously been involved in fuel-economy and EV efficiency records, said: “Efficiency has never been about driving slowly. It’s about understanding how a vehicle works and allowing the technology to perform at its best.”
The record adds to the JAECOO 7 SHS-P's growing list of economy claims. Earlier this year, the same model completed an independently verified 828-mile run at UTAC Millbrook on a single tank of fuel and a full charge. That figure was more than 11 per cent beyond its official combined WLTP range.
The JAECOO 7 SHS-P uses the company's fifth-generation Super Hybrid System and offers up to 745 miles of combined range, including up to 56 miles of electric-only driving. Prices start at £35,170, with a seven-year/100,000-mile warranty included.
The Three Peaks challenge was intended to show how the system performs in everyday conditions, with the car tackling nearly 470 miles of motorways and mountain roads while Ben Shephard completed the three climbs.
The result comes as the JAECOO 7 continues to make a significant impact on the UK new-car market. According to the latest SMMT figures, it was Britain's best-selling new car in September 2026, with 10,814 registrations. That put it second in the year-to-date rankings, behind only the Ford Puma, with 39,474 registrations so far this year.
